Two Weeks Old…

Maddox is two weeks old today…October 18. It has been an amazing two weeks, but with two weeks came the dreaded two-week checkup!

Jennifer & I did not enjoy today’s doctor’s visit whatsoever. You know, these past couple of weeks have been so surreal. I know I’m a daddy and I have a beautiful son…but it has just felt unbelievable in a way. People have asked me how it feels to be a daddy but I really haven’t had a good response…almost like “is this really happening”? Well…today changed all of that for me.

We were standing there when the nurse pricked Maddox’s heel and he immediately let out a scream that we hadn’t heard before. It was completely different from the “I’m hungry” scream…or…the “my diaper has unwanted visitors” scream. It was completely different. When I heard it I felt completely helpless…and my heart broke. I reached down, grabbed his hand, kissed his face, and whispered in his ear “daddy’s here”. It was at that moment that I understood and felt what so many people have said many times before…”there’s no love like the love a parent has for a child”. It was at that moment that all of my surreal feelings vanished and everything felt real…deep…unexplainable! I am the most blessed man to have been given the gift of my son, Maddox, but also the gift of my wife and his mother, Jennifer.

And with that…I give you Maddox…two weeks old!
