AT&T and the iPhone…a love-hate relationship

Yes, it is true. I jumped on the iPhone bandwagon with the rest of the World. How could you not? As soon as our Verizon contract was up, we jumped ship (my choice) and headed over to the local AT&T store and signed up. I, of course, acquired the iPhone and Jennifer went with the Samsung Propel.

 For me, that was a happy day. For Jennifer, if she had a time-machine, she would jump in it, go back to that particular day, and poke me in the eye for even suggesting we switch from Verizon to AT&T. You see, AT&T has issues with coverage based on our location. The funny thing is the coverage is still spotty when we change location. When we were Verizon customers our coverage was incredible. We could jump in the car and drive to the bottom of the nearest lake and still have a strong signal.

On occasion, I find our situation quite humorous…Jennifer, not so much. And for that reason, I try to keep those humorous moments to myself. Let me explain.

Jennifer, like most members of Generation Y, is a texter. The problem is that AT&T did not disclose that there were three additional steps to sending text messages while sitting at home.

Step 1: You must stand up and walk around your home (or outside)
Step 2: You must extend your arm high in the air while holding the phone in an attempt to get closer to a satellite, spaceship, or something
Step 3: Repeats steps 1 & 2 until your message has been sent successfully

As you can see, this has created some frustration. Am I frustrated? Yes, occasionally, but the features of the iPhone FAR OUT WEIGH any of my frustration. The issue is that Jennifer has not really benefitted from these features. She uses it on occasion but rarely.

So, what’s the plan? Well, I keep hearing that Verizon will be offering the iPhone in the near future but I have not been able to confirm this. I’ve also heard that AT&T will soon be providing a small contraption you can place in your home to boost your signal. EXCELLENT…not really. There is a price tag with the signal booster thingy. I, for one, am not willing to fork out mucho dinero to improve something that shouldn’t have an issue in the first place. Here’s my philosophy. If I can get excellent reception while using a Verizon device then I should have no problem with reception when using an AT&T device.

If Verizon doesn’t provide an iPhone option in the future, or if AT&T doesn’t increase their ability to provide quality reception in suburban areas, then I may have to part ways with a phone that has literally made certain aspects of my life easier.

Apple, kudos to you for inventing such an incredible device. Shame on you for selecting AT&T to represent it.

    Hey Ray! Wow! I can’t believe that you guys have so many problems with AT&T. I have an iPhone as well, and I LOVE it (it’s my life line)! We live where you can’t even get CABLE TV and I still get great signal. You would think that the service would be better in your area. Bummer, I don’t think I could give up my iPhone, the thought makes me sad….Good Luck! How was the little rock star’s birthday party? Sorry I couldn’t make it! Much Love to everyone!

    Hi Weslie! AT&T has been a thorn…whata ya do though! That’s hilarious though that your AT&T reception is good but Cable is not. The party was good and a ton of fun…just sad that he’s already 1. We’ll be putting those pics up hopefully later tonight.
