Our little man turned 5 weeks old today. He has been doing so good. The other night he actually slept for longer than 6 hours. We are all getting more rest now that we’re putting him on his stomach to sleep. We ended up investing in a sensor that you put under the mattress that detects movement and breathing. If there is no movement or breathing for 20 seconds an alarm goes off. It’s pretty cool!
Anyway, here’s a couple of shots of what now consumes our time and our hearts…Maddox!

We recently had Maddox dedicated. It was pretty cool to have alot of our family there to share that experience with us. Both mine and Jennifer’s grandmother’s were there so 4 generations were represented.
For those of you who may not be familiar with a baby dedication let me explain. We believe our son is a gift from God. With that come’s a huge responsibility. At a baby dedication, the pastor, which in our case is my dad, publically asks the parents to accept the responsibility of raising their child to love and serve God.
It was a very special moment for us to have our family there and to have my dad dedicate Maddox. However, Maddox was not feeling the moment whatsoever. He cried almost the entire time.

Maddox is 4 weeks old now. Being a dad has been the most unbelievable and gratifying experience. He definitely has his mommy and me wrapped around his tiny little finger! How could you not be in awe of this beautiful little face?

Yesterday Maddox and I decided to play dress-up and have a photo shoot while daddy was at work. Since it was Halloween I thought it only suiting that I dress Maddox up in all of his Halloween outfits and take tons of pictures. You know I have to show off America’s next top model! We had lots of fun, although I think I enjoyed it much more than Maddox. :) He is not a fan of dress up! As you will see from the pictures Maddox was Mommy’s little pumpkin for his 1st Halloween.

Maddox is now three weeks old…as of Friday, Oct. 24. I know, I know! We’re a little late getting his 3 week old pictures up. So for that, we are posting a few extra pictures.

Maddox is two weeks old today…October 18. It has been an amazing two weeks, but with two weeks came the dreaded two-week checkup!
Jennifer & I did not enjoy today’s doctor’s visit whatsoever. You know, these past couple of weeks have been so surreal. I know I’m a daddy and I have a beautiful son…but it has just felt unbelievable in a way. People have asked me how it feels to be a daddy but I really haven’t had a good response…almost like “is this realy happening”? Well…today changed all of that for me.
We were standing there when the nurse pricked Maddox’s heel and he immediately let out a scream that we hadn’t heard before. It was completely different from the “I’m hungry” scream…or…the “my diaper has unwanted visitors” scream. It was completely different. When I heard it I felt completely helpless…and my heart broke. I reached down, grabbed his hand, kissed his face, and whispered in his ear “daddy’s here”. It was at that moment that I understood and felt what so many people have said many times before…”there’s no love like the love a parent has for a child”. It was at that moment that all of my surreal feelings vanished and everything felt real…deep…unexplainable! I am the most blessed man to have beeng given the gift of my son, Maddox, but also the gift of my wife and his mother, Jennifer.
And with that…I give you Maddox…two weeks old!

Maddox is one week old today. We are going to borrow Chris & Michelle’s idea with their new baby Chloe and try to take pictures of Maddox every week for the first year so we can see how he changes. So…here we go.

We have already experienced so many firsts with Maddox and we are looking forward to so many firsts to come. He has had his first bath, his first mohawk, and his first doctor’s appointment.
Let’s begin with his first doctor’s appointment. He was born with a heart murmur and our doctor wanted to see him this week to check on the status of it. We are thankful that the heart murmur is now barely noticeable and should be gone by his 2 week checkup. The appointment was very eventful though. We had to undress him for the doctor…so Jennifer and I began to do that while we were waiting on the doctor. As soon as we got him undressed his caboose exploded. My first reaction was, what do we do now? Well, we placed him on the table and began to change him. We were working double-time so that we would be finished by the time the doctor got in. Right as we were putting the new diaper on he began to spray the room! I was so stressed. We were able to get him and the room cleaned before the doctor came in…but not without hard work and quick thinking…most of the quick thinking was done by Jennifer. I stood there in shock!
Another first was his bath before we went to the doctor. That started out really good. He just sat there and enjoyed the moment…for the first minute. Then he got a little uncomfortable and just cried and cried. We finally finished and right when we were drying him off we noticed that his bottom had begun to explode again…are you noticing the trend. Maddox tends to relieve himself at the most inconvenient moments…but we’re loving every minute of it!
Another first you will notice in the pictures below is his first mohawk. He was born with pretty crazy hair so my philosophy has been why fight it? He’s my little rocker.

Well, Maddox has finally arrived. It all began about 2:00 am Friday morning. Jennifer began to have really bad contractions and her water “kind of” broke…meaning it didn’t gush or anything. So, we got up, got ready, and headed to the hospital. We got to the hospital about 2:30 am. Jennifer was in labor 14 1/2 hours and Maddox was finally born at 6:39 pm Friday evening… on his due date!
It was an EXTREMELY long day…especially for Jennifer. Maddox was bigger than anyone expected. He weighed 8 lbs and 5 ounces and was 20 inches long. Unfortunately for Jennifer, she just couldn’t quite handle a baby that big, so they had to use forceps and she had an epesiotomy. She did have to have an epidural a couple of hours before she actually delivered him because of the pain and complications due to his size. The good news is Maddox is perfectly healthy and mommy will recover.
We were released around 3:20 pm Sunday afternoon and it was so nice to bring our baby home. He is the most beautiful boy. He just might be America’s Next Top Model!
Just a couple of side notes…I made it through the entire pregnancy without losing my lunch or fainting. I watched the entire delivery in awe and amazement. I have also had lots of practice with diapers. I changed his very first diaper. It was all going so well. BUT…right when I put the new diaper on his litte water hose began to spray uncontrollably…spraying me, him, his little bed, the new diaper…everything…I looked for an off switch but there wasn’t one.
Thank you for all of your thoughts and prayers and we hope you enjoy the pictures. There will be plenty more to come soon! Click each picture to see it full size.
