Monday I took Maddox to the doctor. I have been worried about his excessive sweating. He was born with a small heart murmur that had not completely gone away by his 2 week check-up and the doctor told us that it should be totally gone by his 2 month check-up. The doctor said we should just watch for him turning blue when he eats and sweating so naturally when Maddox started to sweat alot I started to worry. I could not wait until his 2 month appointment and just needed that peace of mind. Praise God! Everything is normal and when the doctor listened to Maddox’s heart he did not hear the murmur at all. Just to make sure, he did an EKG and chest X-ray and they were normal too. The doctor told me the reason for the sweating was probably caused by a fast metobalism and the fact that he is just a hot natured baby. No wonder I was always burning up when I was pregnant. I had a little roaster inside of me.
While we were at the doctor they weighed him and he weighed 11 lbs 10 oz. I call him my little hungry, hungry hippo because he always wants to eat and he eats so much. He is growing so fast! Maddox is also so very strong. He has come so close to rolling over from his stomach to his back and he has been holding his head up since the second day he was born. I know that sounds crazy because he is only 5 weeks old but he is seriously a very strong little boy. As you will see from the video of him and daddy playing, he had started to smile and coo, which just melts my heart!
Our little man turned 5 weeks old today. He has been doing so good. The other night he actually slept for longer than 6 hours. We are all getting more rest now that we’re putting him on his stomach to sleep. We ended up investing in a sensor that you put under the mattress that detects movement and breathing. If there is no movement or breathing for 20 seconds an alarm goes off. It’s pretty cool!
Anyway, here’s a couple of shots of what now consumes our time and our hearts…Maddox!
We recently had Maddox dedicated. It was pretty cool to have alot of our family there to share that experience with us. Both mine and Jennifer’s grandmother’s were there so 4 generations were represented.
For those of you who may not be familiar with a baby dedication let me explain. We believe our son is a gift from God. With that come’s a huge responsibility. At a baby dedication, the pastor, which in our case is my dad, publically asks the parents to accept the responsibility of raising their child to love and serve God.
It was a very special moment for us to have our family there and to have my dad dedicate Maddox. However, Maddox was not feeling the moment whatsoever. He cried almost the entire time.
Maddox is 4 weeks old now. Being a dad has been the most unbelievable and gratifying experience. He definitely has his mommy and me wrapped around his tiny little finger! How could you not be in awe of this beautiful little face?
Yesterday Maddox and I decided to play dress-up and have a photo shoot while daddy was at work. Since it was Halloween I thought it only suiting that I dress Maddox up in all of his Halloween outfits and take tons of pictures. You know I have to show off America’s next top model! We had lots of fun, although I think I enjoyed it much more than Maddox.
Here’s a little extra something…
Maddox is now three weeks old…as of Friday, Oct. 24. I know, I know! We’re a little late getting his 3 week old pictures up. So for that, we are posting a few extra pictures.
Maddox is two weeks old today…October 18. It has been an amazing two weeks, but with two weeks came the dreaded two-week checkup!
Jennifer & I did not enjoy today’s doctor’s visit whatsoever. You know, these past couple of weeks have been so surreal. I know I’m a daddy and I have a beautiful son…but it has just felt unbelievable in a way. People have asked me how it feels to be a daddy but I really haven’t had a good response…almost like “is this realy happening”? Well…today changed all of that for me.
We were standing there when the nurse pricked Maddox’s heel and he immediately let out a scream that we hadn’t heard before. It was completely different from the “I’m hungry” scream…or…the “my diaper has unwanted visitors” scream. It was completely different. When I heard it I felt completely helpless…and my heart broke. I reached down, grabbed his hand, kissed his face, and whispered in his ear “daddy’s here”. It was at that moment that I understood and felt what so many people have said many times before…”there’s no love like the love a parent has for a child”. It was at that moment that all of my surreal feelings vanished and everything felt real…deep…unexplainable! I am the most blessed man to have beeng given the gift of my son, Maddox, but also the gift of my wife and his mother, Jennifer.
And with that…I give you Maddox…two weeks old!
Maddox is one week old today. We are going to borrow Chris & Michelle’s idea with their new baby Chloe and try to take pictures of Maddox every week for the first year so we can see how he changes. So…here we go.
